What is E-commerce? The answer is actually any business done electronically, or in a more layman's definition, any business or transaction that takes place over the internet. Many people make a good living online by owning e-commerce websites, because they are much easier to maintain than an offline store. If you own a store offline, you have many more expenses, such as rental or mortgage of your store, inventory costs, employee payroll...the list goes on. With an e-commerce store, all the above overhead costs are reduced, if not eliminated, therefore creating a larger profit for the owner. Owning an e-commerce store is very obtainable for the average everyday person, and once you know the process of starting your own, the maintenance is minimal. The first step to starting your own online ecommerce website is to chose what kind of products you want to sell. Don't worry about whether or not you have the products or if you can create them, because once you know what you would like to sell, you can find drop shipping companies that actually will ship a product for you. (Once a customer buys a product from your website, you would order the product from the drop shipper, and they would ship it.) Once you know what you would like to sell, now is the time to find a drop shipper. You can do an internet search for the products you want to sell, and then sign up with the drop shipper. The next step is to set up your website! Once your website is set up, and you have everything in working order, the most important part of your e-commerce business is getting traffic to it. Knowledge of SEO and backlinking should be your main focus. You can also get traffic to your site by using PPC advertising and such.
